Dr Dabber Aurora

Dr Dabber Aurora

Dr. Dabber is a company whose name has been synonymous with the words performance and quality. The wax pen vaporizers from Dr. D are considered by many as premium, portable dabbing devices that are convenient and reliable. Their products are highly regarded as some of the best portable vaporizers on the market.

Today, I will be reviewing one of Dr. D’s multi-awarded vaporizer, the famed Dr. Dabber Aurora. To help us get started, here are some of its notable features.

  • Sleek & Discreet
  • Matte Satin Finish
  • Ceramic Mouthpiece
  • Variable Voltage Battery
  • Multiple Advanced Atomizers
  • SnapTech Magnetic Technology

The Dr. Dabber Aurora has won numerous wins from the highly-acclaimed High Times Magazine Awards back in 2016, I have high expectations from this portable wax pen vaporizer and here are some of the reasons why.

  • Dr. Dabber Aurora + Ghost – “Best Packaging/Kit” – High Times Magazine 2016
  • Dr. Dabber Aurora – “Best Innovation” – High Times Magazine 2016
  • Dr. Dabber Aurora – “Best Stealth” – High Times Magazine 2016
  • Dr. Dabber Aurora – “Best Taste” – High Times Magazine 2016
  • Dr. Dabber Aurora – “Best Durability” – High Times Magazine 2016

You can see why most dab enthusiasts prefer to use the Dr. Dabber Aurora, it just screams superior quality. It’s the apogee of wax pen vaporizer technology. Moreover, I feel that what separates Dr. D’s Aurora from other wax pen vaporizers in its class, apart from all its unique features, is its magnetic connections. At a glance, I’d say it’s built exactly for on-the-go vaping. Magnetic and threadless connections ensure easier assembly, faster reloads, and quicker preparations.

It’s one of those wax pen vaporizers that make you say “shut up and take my money.”

Unboxing

You can tell it’s premium just by how it’s packaged. The Dr. D Aurora comes in a sleek box, the plastic cover smoothly slides parallel and the harder carton cover moves sideways. Once you get inside the box, you’ll be welcomed by the user guide where underneath you’ll find the vaporizer itself. The box compartments hold the vaporizer and the inclusive atomizers securely in place so you know your Dr. Dabber Aurora isn’t exactly shaking inside the box. The second layer of the box houses several accessories like your Dr. D sticker, some alcohol wipes, the Dr. Dabber keychain, loading tool, silicone storage for your concentrates and an extra mouthpiece. The last layer of the box contains the dr dabber charger.

Here’s a list if its inclusive accessories.

  • 1 x Dual Quartz Rod Atomizer
  • 1 x Ceramic Halo Atomizer
  • 1 x Dual Ceramic Rod Atomizer
  • 1 x Ceramic Mouthpiece
  • 1 x Ceramic Shotgun Mouthpiece
  • 1 x Dab Tool
  • 1 x Dr. Dabber Keychain
  • 1 x Shatterproof Storage Ball
  • 1 x Magnetic USB Charger

Assembly

After securing a fully charged battery I begin to build the pieces of the Dr. Dabber Aurora together.

Assembly is fairly easy, since there are virtually no threaded connections the parts snap right in without difficulty. Though I’m in no way an authority in wax pen vaporizers, I can tell by experience that threaded connections have a tendency to get loose as you use them overtime. Especially threaded connections that are near the heating component of the vaporizer. As the metals are exposed to heat they have the tendency to become malleable, particularly for cheaper made wax pen vaporizers that are obviously made with similarly cheap materials. Using magnetic connections not only provide the Dr. Dabber Aurora with a tight and secure connection but in my opinion greatly improves the lifespan of the vaporizer itself.

The Aurora Experience

The Dr. Dabber Aurora comes with three premium atomizers, they all offer a different experience and have their own benefits and advantages.

Dual Ceramic Rod with Quartz Dish — Ceramic is an inert component and by far holds off heat the longest. Using ceramic rods allows your materials to heat up slower and can emphasize the tasty sensations from your wax concentrates.

Ceramic Halo with Quartz Dish — commonly known as the donut style atomizer, the ceramic halo with quartz dish atomizer is a flat ceramic heating element with no coils and no wicks. It’s a deep dish atomizer that has a side-airflow system which prevents your materials from leaking to the battery compartment. The ceramic halo atomizer is best used for waxes with thick and crumbly consistency since it heats the materials slowly and at a more steady pace. It’s perfect for preserving the unique flavor notes of your favorite wax concentrates and improves efficiency since the waxes are vaporized at a slower rate and are consumed to the last drop. No wicks and coils means no room for material build up.

Dual Quartz Rod with Quartz Dish — Quartz have been known to have less heat retention attributes compared to other atomizer components like ceramic and titanium. However, the use of quartz means your materials will heat up at a faster rate allowing you to quickly experience the benefits of your wax concentrates. Quartz is pure so the flavor profiles from your choice materials are faithfully preserved.

Overall, I loved the dual ceramic rod better than any of the inclusive atomizers in this kit. For me it gave off the best tasting vapors compared to any atomizer in this group.

The Aurora Design

I find the minimalistic design of the Dr. Dabber Aurora appealing. It’s matte black finish gives a stealthy and discreet vibe and is perfect for low key vaping. Though the Aurora from Dr. D looks similar to most black colored wax pen vaporizers, the feel and weight of this device tells the user that it’s altogether different. I appreciate that even the Dr. Dabber branding on this wax pen vaporizer is in black hue.

Using low and slow heating means that you’ll have thin wisps of vapor as you exhale, it does not at all defeats your purpose in vaping especially if you want to keep a low profile.

Final Thoughts

The Dr. Dabber Aurora vaporizer revolutionized wax pen vaping by being the first to feature an all-magnetic connection design. The folks at Dr. Dabber like to call it “SnapTech Magnetic Technology.” Dr. Dabber eschewed the traditional threaded connection to make way for its state of the art magnetic component. Although this may seem to limit Aurora users to fewer customization options, the unparalleled quality and performance of Dr. D’s devices and accessories ensure us we won’t have to go looking for anything else.
